How To Start A Website Business ?
There are many things to consider before starting out in this business as many people do not understand the concept of a web based business or how to start a website for a business,I’ve come accross many people I know in person telling me how they have a website for their business and how much they paid to have there website ‘so called’ completed,
The thing is a website is never completed in theory,as it takes More work once its built and will need further updating to have a successful site that has visibility in the search engines, search engines are constantly crawling websites looking for new content to display to the people searching their keywords in google / Yahoo / Bing and other search engines alike,
Websites with new content that are up to date ‘WILL’ more than likely be shown to the visitors who are searching for your business, Meaning if your web master has told you your website is finished he or she is not being fully honest about the further work it needs such as updating with new posts/content,
Not to forget ‘SEO’ (search engine optimisation ) This also plays a big role in optimising your business website showing up in the search results for your potential customers to find you in the top results which is exactly what you need for your online business !
Content creation is key to ranking you website in the search engines for the keywords you want it to rank for, I explain more about keywords here, below i will explain the key factors of starting a website business for your current product or services business,
I have my own successful niche product website’s and I also have a service website for my current offline business which is my painting and decorating company,This particular business site currently stands 1st position in google for my area of north wales and is generating a lot of business for the company since I launched it back in 2015,Not giving me the time to do posts like this for readers wanting to learn the same things I did which is a shame but well worth my time put in for my business website.
Lets Cut To The Chase :
Your here because you want to know how to start a website business but you dont really know where to start and you may well be scepticle about who to approach and how much is this going to cost, Well the cost side of things can be looked at in two different ways,
- The Money You Spend Hiring A web Designer
- Or The Time You Invest In Yourself Builing It Yourself – ( This I Can Help You With -Read On )
First Steps To Create Your Own Business Website:
- First thing you going to have to do is choose a platform to build your website.
- Choose a domain name for your business. ( Often sites can be started free on a sub-domain and moved later on to your chosen owned domain )
- Choose a hosting company provider to host your website.
Other things to consider Whilst starting out:
Create Your Business Model:
Be clear in showing people what your business is all about whether its a product or a service, this is going to be the foundation of you new business before its off the ground, explain in great detail what it is your offering as a srevice or product in a way that you are there to help people rather than to pitch or sell to them.
Be Clear About The Product Or Service You Are Going To Be Offering:
For instace if you are offering a gardening service or a cleaning service, be sure to start off on the right foot explaining how your services could be of a help to them, If its a product you have also be clear to your visitors how this product works and how it can help them with what they are looking for.
Be Sure To Comply With The Policies Related To Your Business Such As Insurance Or Guarantee’s:
If you are running a business which involves going to public places or private dwellings be sure to have liability cover and note this on your website, If its a product you may have some sort of guarantee or other policies which you may want to include in your listing to give your customers the piece of mind they are looking for.
- Affiliate Programs:
If you want to run an affiliate program on your website be sure to add a disclaimer to your website, required by the FTC Guidelines,Affiliate marketing is a means of earning advertising fees displaying other peoples Ad’s such as google adsense OR Promoting other peoples products like Amazon or ebay or any other affiliate programs.
Make Sure You Have Reliable Hosting For Your Website To Run Smoothly At All Times:
Every website needs hosting, This is a server that delivers your website to your visitors, Some shared hosting platforms can be slow resulting in visitors clicking away from your site due to slow loading, In some cases for some of my websites I personally use WPengine which is lightening fast and reliable.
Picking you domain name can be tricky, usually the name you really want is taken in some cases, I always recommend getting a .com extension as they tend to rank better in the search engines,if you cannot get the .com the next best thing is a .org extension, Always be carefull choosing a top level domain like .co.uk as you will only be targeting the uk,this will be show in google webmasters and cannot be changed, I always use Namecheap for my domains as the dashboard is simple to use also they have great customer support.
Make Sure Your Website Is Mobile And Tablet Optimised:
With a growing number of people using mobile and tablet devices you must be sure your website is optimised to work properly on these devices, Also google has introduced an algorithm which favours website that are mobile ready and is penalising sites that are not, lets face it can get quite annoying pinching the screen and scrolling all over the place to read the little tiny writing on the screen that is optimised for a desktop or laptop.
Place relevant images or videos of your product or service or on your website for people to see:
I personally use my I Phone 6 to take my pictures on the go which always come out very good looking providing your lense is clean on your device, Optinal you can use google images that are free to use and share even commercially, you can do this by going to images on google you will see a little settings cog wheel on the right hand side you can press, them scroll down to usage rights and choose the free to use and share even commercially option as you dont be to be sued for using copyrighted images that dont belong to you.
Grow a social media profile:
Over the most popular platforms like facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Google plus is always a good one to use as you are letting google know about your wesite and your content, I personally use google plus myself as in the about section you will find you can add your self as a contributer to your website which will really help rank your site faster.
Google Webmasters / Site map:
Always join google webmasters and load a plugin called google XML sitemaps if your using wordpress for your website, this lets google know about your website and enables their spiders to crawl you new content more efficiently which in return will rank your website much faster, I personally do this each time I make changes to any of my websites, This and much more was covered within the training I went through at wealthyaffiliate.com
Build Your E’Mail List To Send Out Your Offers To:
I have Personally been using SumoMe but I recently converted to OptinMonster on my other websites which is a fantastic tool that will help grow your e’mail list a lot faster making growing your list a breeze
Dont Forget About Offline Marketing Of Your Business:
Use a memerable logo for your business with matching business cards and possibly clothes, Always add your new website URL address to your business cards etc, If you are providing a service such as gardening or cleaning etc’ Always have a lawn sign outside the said property you are working on with your web URL and your contact details on it as this will help generate more business for you for sure.
Now I’ve covered most of the topics on how to start a website for a business to get you started, whether your choosing to build your website yourself or you need a web developer to do it for you at a cost I would take a few notes from this post and ask your web designer to implement some of the above tactics to get you started, One thing ive not really covered is SEO (search engine optimisation) This would usually come at an extra cost with any web developer I expect as this takes time and effort also.
This can all be learned the same way I learned myself within my recommended training platform which kicks you off with free video tuturial training and two free websites on a sub-domain which is also free with hosting provided, this is a seven day course which consists of 10 lessons in which you will have the framework of your website built at the end of the lessons with upgrade option.
There is an option to upgrade to premium, build up to 50 websites hosted within the platform but no need to as your free membership lasts a lifetime but you will only get the full technical support form the platform for those seven days from kicking off on the platform so be sure to have the time to put in for those seven days before joining for free membership.
Ive also used weebly website builder whilst starting a website business with its simplified drag and drop builder, its more simplified than wordpress when starting out but I now always use wordpress self hosted which is the .org extension not the .com extension which is very limited you can find more information on that here
See a short video on how weebly changed these peoples lives
